Christmas (un)traditions

well, I'm happy and relieved that Christmas is finally over. I had a hard time getting into the spirit this year. I love Christmas, but this year it just seemed to come much too quickly. My year just flew by...I'm still trying to figure out what happened to my summer!
This Christmas was completly different than years past. A year of broken traditions to say it best. Jeremy was gone at work, and although this wasn't the first Christmas he missed, it was the first Christmas he missed that I didn't stay at my parents house. This year I was determined to celebrate Christmas in our first home, even if it meant it would be just me and the kids on Christmas morning. It was different thats for sure. Not having anyone else to enjoy the kids' joy and excitement. To help take pictures . To open up and build new toys. Different is a loose term for what it was.

On Christmas Eve, my parents did come over and help me to build the larger toys. Thank goodness they did because we were still up unitl past midnight. I wouldn't have known what to do or where to start if my dad hadn't helped in the building department. They returned on Christmas morning around 10 to make breakfast at my house. But it was still quiet. My brother was gone this year too. He is still living in Arizona with Courtney. We put them on speaker phone while they opened there presents from far away. No doubt that this Christmas was completly different for him as well. He got my parents on Thanksgiving and I got my parents on Christmas. Next year we'll be all together again...well, except for Jeremy. He'll be working...again.
After Christmas morning at my house we headed over to my parents house to open gifts there. It all just seemed so...untraditional. I guess this could be part of the reason why I wasn't quite in the spirit. But I did get to enjoy a nice dinner. Thats always worthy of smiles.

Now that the season is nearly over, I can just get through a quiet New Years and then Jeremy will be home once more. We can spend family time together...and celebrate a late Christmas for each other. I just might have to start making the untraditional part of our Christmas traditions. New surprises every year.
